Parish Councillor to Attend Planning Committee at SMBC to Object to Back Garden Building before Flood Investigation Completed
Public Notice of Planning Meeting 6.00pm on Wednesday 5th September 2018 in the Civic Suite, Council House, Solihull
Planning Application 2018/01710 Demolish to 85 Birchy Leasowes Lane and construct 5 detached 3 storey houses on garden land to Birchy Close
This application has been referred to the Full Planning Committee following many objections and concern from residents over the impact of building in back gardens before the investigation into recent flooding has been completed.
The Officer’s Report recommends approval – subject to measures being provided to deal with the surface water flooding issues which already exist. If a good number of residents attend this meeting – it will ensure that Borough Councillors are aware of the strength of local concern over the flooding issues in this area of Dickens Heath and harm caused by back garden developments of this type.
Access to the Solihull Council Civic Suite is off Churchill Road opposite St. Alphege Church and follow the roadway round between the Council House and Touchwood – where the barrier is open from 4.30pm to allow for public access to free parking.
Flood protection measures for the Dickens Manor (Bellway) development failed on 27th May 2018

Solihull Council is the Lead Flood Authority and should not be allowing development on this site until their current assessment of the causes of the 27th May flooding into residents’ homes has been completed (due October 2018) and they can guarantee the necessary drainage system improvements will be adequate during the lifetime of any building that takes place, and will not fail as it did with Bellway Dickens Manor Development.
