Update on Policing in Dickens Heath from April 2018

Update on Policing in Dickens Heath from April 2018

PCSO Wendy Shale attended our Coffee Morning today to tell us about the changes from April 1st. WPC Sharon Grant and PCSO Wendy Shale have covered Dickens Heath for 11 years, but as of April they will be covering the Dorridge and Hockley Heath area and Dickens Heath will no longer be covered by the Rural Police team. The Policing boundaries are changing partly in anticipation of the future building that will take place in Blythe. From April 2018, Blythe ward will be covered by the Shirley Police team who are based in Solihull police station. Solihull police station will be operating for the next 2 years & is then due to shut, all large police stations are being shut. Plans for a Police base after that are still to be decided.

There are benefits to this change for Dickens Heath. Our Police team is currently based in Chelmsley Wood, so the response time from Solihull will be quicker. Sharon & Wendy are doing a full handover to the new team led by Sgt Diane Shepherd. The Police are having to work with less resources, so they are working in a different way. Dickens Heath residents shouldn’t really notice any difference following this move. Wendy finished by saying that she is the Canal Watch Officer, & so she will still be in Dickens Heath from time to time.
