Switch And Save Yourself Some Money

Switch ‘n’ Save yourself some cash

Solihull Council is offering residents the opportunity to save money on their energy bills through Solihull Switch ‘n’ Save. Residents who have participated in the scheme have saved an average of £303 a year.
Since November 2015 Solihull Council has offered over 1750 households in the borough the opportunity to switch to a cheaper energy provider through its collective energy switching scheme.
Solihull Switch ‘n’ Save takes the hard work out of shopping around for a cheaper deal on gas and electricity. All that’s required is for registrants to give an outline of their current energy usage. An auction is then held where energy companies bid for the chance to offer a cheaper deal. At no point are personal details released to utility companies.
To join in and save money, residents need to go to www.solihull.gov.uk/switiching and register before Tuesday 11 October. You do not have to live in Solihull to join the scheme and the more people who register, the higher the likely savings.
Residents who have registered will then receive an email or letter containing details of the new energy offer and the estimated annual savings available. It’s then up to them whether they choose to switch and save. There are no obligations and it’s completely free.
To date participants have been offered average savings of £303 off their energy bills by switching to these new suppliers, leading to overall savings of £219,000 for Solihull residents.
In the last auction 99% of registrants were able to make a saving. The next auction will be taking place in October so make sure to register before the deadline.
Councillor Tony Dicicco, Cabinet Member for Stronger Communities and Partnerships, said “Solihull Switch ‘n’ Save is an initiative to help put pounds back in people’s pockets. The scheme has been very successful so far and I’m sure it will be again. So what are you waiting for? Let the Council take the legwork out of looking for a better deal on your gas and electricity.”
