Dickens Heath Youth Facility
The Parish Council would really appreciate comments from the young people of Dickens Heath (over 11 years of age) regarding the provision of Youth Facilities in the village; whilst there is a play area for young children there is clearly a lack of facilities for the older youth.
There is currently a large pot of money which is made up in the main of developers’ monies (section 106) for the provision of youth facilities. There are two proposals on how to spend these monies:-
- Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council have proposals to develop a community facility at Dickens Heath school, Three Acres Lane. The facility would be available after school, during school holidays, weekends and evenings up until 9pm. This facility would utilise the whole pot of money.
- The Parish Council have identified a potential parcel of land at Dickens Heath Sports Club, Rumbush Lane, which could provide youth facilities for less outlay.
In an ideal world it would be great to be able to provide youth facilities at both sites but financially that does not appear to be viable.
Some Parish Councillors attended a seminar last weekend and made contact with a company who could advise on and cost the provision of youth facilities at Dickens Heath Sports Club. Before the Parish Council makes any decisions about these provisions it would be helpful if our young people could let the Parish Council know what they would like by way of youth facilities, and their views on a facility at the school and/or at Dickens Heath Sports Club. The Parish Council have not been involved with the financial aspect of the facility at the school. The sports club has a fully equipped club house which could accommodate pool/table tennis tables and also has a youth worker who could help run a youth club and undertake sports training. The hours are open to accommodating reasonable requirements.
Please let us know by the 20th March what your views are by emailing the Parish Council: email@example.com
